Knitting workshop
Hand knit your home
I’m very excited to announce that my first book will be published by Cico books in March 2013. Now available to pre-order, the book shows step by step instructions for knitting projects for the home (including a few of my favourite pieces from my collection).
Wolf and Badger ‘Wool Week’
Wool Week is the annual highlight of The Campaign for Wool which takes place every Autumn around the world. Celebrating the best of wool across fashion, interiors and artisan communities, the focus of Wool Week is to show the amazing capabilities of the world’s most natural and versatile fibre. This year Wolf and Badger have asked me to present my work in their Dover Street window. I will also be knitting in the window on Tuesday 16th and Friday 19th October.
‘Knitted’ flooring
Now I know this sounds crazy, but we’ve done it, and I think it looks pretty cute! Ok so it’s not actually knitted – that would need really really long knitting needles! The very clever people at Printed Space have taken my knits and printed them onto a cushioned vinyl tile to make a cosy floor effect. The full range will be available soon, but in the meantime drop me an email if you would like any more information.
‘Knitted’ wallpaper
At Tent London I showcased a new collaboration of wallpapers developed with Emilie O’Connor from 009 textiles.
The collection starts with beautiful prints in classic colour ways with a subtle twist; a long knit, a chunky cable knit in cream & yellow, grey & purple or grey & blue, and a diamond repeat, in grey, cream, mint and pink, each over sized to give depth and texture to an otherwise ”white wall”
We are currently printing stock, but if you have any questions please get in touch!
Melanie Porter in NY for Campaign For Wool
The Campaign for Wool turned Bryant Park into a woolly wonderland in order to promote the use of wool. And they took 3 of our chairs on a trip to the Big Apple to help illustrate it’s many uses. The Campaign was initiated by the Prince of Wales, who had observed that the wool industry was facing enormous and unprecedented challenges. I’d love to hear the reaction from any Americans who visited this event!
Tent London 2012
We’ve turned a 2 x 3 metre stand into a living room to die for at Tent London. The event is a showcase for designers to exhibit new products and definitely worth a visit if you are interested in interiors and to check out our new knit print wallpaper made in collaboration with 009textiles.

New Collection Launching this September
Following the success of our bespoke service we have created a new line of ‘off the peg’ products to be launched at Tent London from 20th – 24th September 2012.
All the pieces are now available to view online…thanks to the photographer Nina Duncan and stylist Diana Civil.
Laxtons Mill
A few weeks ago my quest to source a 100% British Wool to use for my products (I currently use Italian wool) took me to the wonderful Laxton’s Mill in Yorkshire. Run by James (the great grandson of the original Laxton), who kindly took me around the plant and show me the processes. Stay tuned for further news about my move to British Wool.
Melanie Porter Book
I’m so excited to announce that Cico Books have commissioned us to create a book of 30 hand knit projects for the home to be published in spring 2013. Here’s a sneak peak of a few of the pieces which you will be able to make yourself.
