About

Hi I'm Melanie

I started Melanie Porter after working in the fashion industry for 10 years with a desire to get back to actually making things. Every piece is made in my studio in London using traditional craft techniques.

I'm usually to be found at my spinning wheel or buried under an enormous pile of knitting as I hand-make every detail, from the knitted upholstery panels and individually hand crocheted buttons to the spinning of fairy lights and the giant wool. It’s in my blood as my family has a long history of craftwork, and I still use many of the tools passed down through the generations.

The result of these incredibly labour-intensive processes is a stunning and unique work of art, which I hope is destined to be a future family heirloom.

My knitted chairs have been featured in The Telegraph, Homes and Gardens, Elle decoration and The Sunday Times.
