5 Ways to Make a Child's Bedroom Feel Special

Creating a special bedroom for your child doesn't have to mean a complete makeover. Sometimes it's the little details that make all the difference. I've gathered some of my favourite children's bedrooms, full of colour, creativity and personality, to share five simple styling ideas that will help you create a space that feels truly their own.

1. Start with their personality

Forget about choosing a theme and start with the things your child loves.

I love how @candytuftdesign has created such a personal corner in her daughter's bedroom. Colourful textiles, playful patterns, handcrafted decorations and artwork are layered together to create a space full of character that feels truly her own.

2. Don't be afraid of colour

A bold piece of furniture or a splash of paint can completely transform a room, and everything doesn't have to match!

@dominyirving isn't afraid of experimenting with extraordinary colour combinations in her home (her Instagram is well worth a look!). Her daughter's bedroom is a brilliant example, with a sunshine-yellow wardrobe, turquoise bed and playful mix of patterns creating a joyful space packed with personality.

3. Create a little world within the room

A canopy, reading corner or little den can make even the simplest bedroom feel special.

I love how @candytuftdesign has transformed her daughter's bedroom with the addition of a beautiful fabric canopy. It's created a cosy little nook, perfect for snuggling up with a favourite book or escaping into a world of imagination.

4. Make it personal

There are so many ways to add a personal touch to a child's bedroom. While we create personalised light signs, there are also some wonderful artists and makers creating bespoke artwork, name signs and handcrafted decorations.

Add their own drawings, favourite photographs and treasured keepsakes into the mix, and you'll create a space that feels truly theirs. I love how our personalised fairy light moon has been styled amongst Anya's toys and special little treasures.

5. Layer rather than decorate all at once

A child's bedroom doesn't need to be decorated all at once or filled with perfectly matching pieces. Layer artwork, textiles, toys, handmade decorations and treasured finds over time to create a room full of character.

@velveteen_babies (one of my favourite Instagram accounts for interiors inspiration!) has mastered the art of layering and updating her children's bedrooms. Her rooms evolve as her children grow, reflecting their changing interests and personalities without needing a complete makeover every six months.
