5 Easy Autumn Styling Updates for the Heart of the Home

Summer may be running late into October, but the nights are drawing in earlier and earlier. Now is the perfect time to bring little jewels of light into the heart of the home. I’ve gathered five of my favourite autumn styling ideas to help you embrace the season and make your home feel a little warmer and cosier.

1. Be generous.

A long length of lights in rich jewel colours brings warmth and character to the kitchen. Don’t be too precise – let them loop and tumble along the worktop, weaving them around the things you already have.

2. Think inside the box (or jar)

Fairy lights don’t always need to be strung up. Coil them inside a favourite glass jar or vase, add a plant or a few autumn finds, and let the warm little points of light do the rest. Letting the lights spill out adds a little extra interest and makes the arrangement feel more relaxed.

3. Lights and Linen

Layer soft linen with leafy lights for an easy way to add warmth and texture to the kitchen. Keep everything loose and a little undone – it’s the combination of natural textures and tiny points of light that makes it feel so inviting.

(And yes, I did make the bread.)

4. Add something seasonal

You don’t need pumpkins everywhere to make a room feel autumnal. A bowl of apples, pears or persimmons brings instant seasonal colour. Weave a soft string of lights around them and suddenly something very ordinary feels rather special.

5. It’s all in the detail

You don't need to decorate an entire room to make it feel more seasonal. Try winding a short string of autumn leaf lights around a favourite vase, along a shelf or amongst a few collected branches. Keep the arrangement simple and let the leaves add a little colour without taking over.
